The Village of Wilmette is seeking a reliable and detailed-oriented individual to fill the part-time Museum Assistant – Community Engagement Coordinator position with the Historical Museum. This position will work an average of 21 hours per week.
The person in this position will be responsible for assisting with planning, organizing, and publicizing public programs and events, working with the membership program, and creating and presenting school tours and other programs. Responsibilities may include writing publicity releases; creating flyers; distributing publicity materials; contacting potential presenters; creating new public programs, events, and tours; staffing events; managing the membership and donor program; and other related duties as assigned. This position requires significant contact with the public in person, via email and on the telephone.
The successful candidate will be a college graduate with customer service experience. Prefer a candidate with educational training in history, museums studies or a related field.
Essential position requirements include the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner, and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete required duties in a timely and accurate manner. Candidate must be detail-oriented, flexible, and a team player. The candidate will possess a solid working knowledge of web-based computer software programs, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel). Knowledge of InDesign and Past Perfect software programs a plus.
The successful candidate shall be fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine and shall provide a copy of their vaccination record card which shall be retained by the Village.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly wage is $24.54 to $26.58, DOQ. This position includes participation in a retirement plan through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and ability to participate in the Flexible Spending Account Program for out of pocket medical, dependent care, and transportation expenses. In addition, after one year of employment, this position is eligible to receive paid time off.
