Overview

The galleries and grounds at Newfields provide many opportunities to engage students, families, and guests of all ages in active, creative learning using the strategies of Arts Integration. The Associate Museum Educator for Gallery Teaching works collaboratively with staff to develop lively educational materials and experiences, support scheduling and greeting tours as needed, implement guest evaluations of tours, and coordinate accessibility training. Communication and collaboration with volunteer docents will grow over time to include training on content and related subjects. This staff member works closely with the Director of Education, the Coordinator of School and Group Services, other staff educators at Newfields and Volunteerism staff.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop a variety of educational materials, including gallery self-guide documents, educator resources, and facilitated tour outlines using Arts Integration as a resource
  • Assist Coordinator of School and Group Services with scheduling and greeting school groups as needed
  • Design, revise and implement evaluations of educational materials and tours
  • Coordinate accessibility training for staff and volunteers
  • Communicate and collaborate with volunteer docents; recruit new docents
  • Develop and organize training sessions for volunteer docents
  • Develop and monitor online education content
  • Align program with Volunteerism staff
  • Manage program budget
  • Support grants and sponsorships as needed

 

Required Skills

  • Provide active, experiential learning experiences for guests of all ages, and especially PreK-12th grade youth
  • Knowledge of Arts Integration (preferred)
  • Application of guest-centered engagement
  • Strong communication and writing skills; attention to detail
  • Microsoft 365, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and TEAMS
  • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers
  • Work occasional evenings and weekends

 

Education and/or Experience

  • B.A. in Education, Museum Studies, Art and/or Art History, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in PreK-12 education or higher education or museum education
  • Training and experience with Arts Integration implementation preferred
  • Experience working with guests of all ages, especially in a museum or school setting
  • Volunteer training
