Retail and Theater Representative

Natural History Museum

MPM is looking for an 18-24 hour per week Retail & Theater Rep available to work weekends (Saturday and Sunday) plus a weekday which is flexible.

As a  Retail/Theater Rep you will split time working in the Museum Shop, Haymarket Candy Store and the Dome Theater & Planetarium ensuring a consistently high quality experience for all guests. Hours for the position vary within a work week and  may include days, evenings, weekends & holidays. MPM publishes work schedules 4 weeks in advance and this position participates in an incentive sales program.

Duties include:

-Customer Service:

Attentiveness to our guests and their needs. Sharing knowledge of Museum events and assisting guests in the selection of products. Thanking guests for their support and finding solutions to problems.

-Retail Sales:

Actively engaging in discussions of products with guests. Promoting MPM events, concessions and shopping. Proficient use of the Retail POS systems including opening and closing registers, redeeming gift cards and handling exchanges and returns, and ensuring a balanced cash drawer. Reconciling end of day reports.

-Inventory and Display:

Creating attractive displays in line with events including organizing, cleaning and stocking.


Opening and closing theater concession stand. Making popcorn, restocking, cleaning and filing end of day reports.

-Theater Duties:

Greet MPM visitors and welcome them to the theater. Control traffic flow in the audience staging area. Checks theater tickets from guests entering the auditorium. Assisting guests to seats as needed. Occasionally will start and end Planetarium Programs, Giant Films and 3D shows and make pre-show and post-show announcements. Monitoring the shows for sound and video and reports concerns immediately to management.


High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 1 year customer service and cash handling experience
Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
Strong communication skills
Previous opening/closing experience in a retail environment preferred

$12.65 – $12.65 Hourly
