AMM and EdCom Schedule Workshop for Museum Educators
AMM has scheduled a one-day workshop, Memory Loss, Creative Engagement, and Museum-Based Programming, for Friday, June 11 at the Art Institute of Chicago. This program will explore innovative approaches to engaging visitors with memory loss and their caregivers. This workshop, featuring presenters from the Alzheimer's Association, the Museum of Modern Art, and Wisconsin museums, will examine real-world applications for all types and sizes of museums.

Fees for the workshop are $50 for AMM or EdCom members and $60 for non-members. The registration fee includes morning refreshments. The Art Institute will remain open Friday evening and will feature a special exhibition, Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913-1917; all workshop participants will be permitted to explore the Art Institute and the special exhibition at the conclusion of the workshop! For more information about the workshop, contact AMM Executive Director Brian Bray at 314-746-4557 or bbray@midwestmuseums.org. To download a registration form, click here.

AMM Hosts Reception in Los Angeles
The Association of Midwest Museums (AMM) will host a hors d'oeuvres reception on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Wells Fargo Museum in Los Angeles, California. The reception is scheduled in conjunction with the American Association of Museums (AAM) conference. The reception is an informal event and open to the public — plan to come late or leave early, whatever works with your schedule! The Wells Fargo Museum is a short walk from the Millennium Biltmore Hotel and the Sheraton Los Angeles Hotel — AAM will provide bus transportation from the convention center to both hotels. Directions will be provided to all registrants.

AMM members and non-members are welcome — it's an opportunity to meet the AMM staff and board of directors, learn about current and future AMM activities and to network with other museum professionals. Registration for this event is available for $15 on the AAM conference registration form. For more information, contact Rachel Drochter at rdrochter@midwestmuseums.org or at 314-746-4557.

The 2010 AMM reception is generously sponsored by Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf Architects.

AMM Releases 2010 Conference Call for Proposals
In 2010, AMM will partner with Ohio Museums Association (OMA) to sponsor a joint annual conference, Museums Making Connections, in Cleveland, Ohio. AMM and OMA encourage proposals that address new audiences, new technologies, and new practices, particularly given the current economic climate! Sessions should focus on best practices and innovative approaches that lead to new ideas and creative solutions for museums. Presenters representing a variety of disciplines and sizes of museums are encouraged to submit a proposal. Please include a brief, one-page description of your proposal and a list of presenters (with their contact information) with this form. All proposals must be received by January 31, 2010! Click HERE to download a copy of the Call for Proposals form.

AMM Releases 2009 Salary Survey Report
AMM has released the 2009 Salary Survey Report. Nearly 140 cultural institutions participated in this year's survey, reporting on nearly than 3,000 jobs in the Midwest. Copies of the salary survey can be purchased for $40 for AMM members and $75 for non-members. To order your survey report, click here.

AMM Partners for Museum Advocacy Day
AMM has joined AAM and other institutions around the U.S. to plan the second annual Museum Advocacy Day. Advocacy Day is scheduled for March 22-23, 2010 in Washington DC. It's critical that we have maximum participation and that the museum field presents a united voice to advocate for increased federal funding for museums — please plan to join us and register for this event.

AAM is offering free online advocacy training — for more information about the training, please visit www.speakupformuseums.org/ advocacy_trainings.htm. If you would like more information about Advocacy Day, contact Brian Bray at (314) 746-4557 or bbray@midwestmuseums.org.
