Workshops

As an integral part of AMM's programs and services, AMM hosts a variety of workshops addressing various facets of museum administration. The one-day workshops, typically scheduled in the spring and summer, are held at centrally located venues around the Midwest to make the programs both accessible and affordable. Although the workshops are open to the public, there is a discounted registration rate for AMM members.

In the past, AMM has collaborated with various Standing Professional Committees (SPCs) to host the workshops. Past workshops have included Building the Pyramid, a workshop in collaboration the Small Museums Administrators Committee (SMAC) on fundraising principles for small museums; Taking the Show on the Road, a workshop in collaboration with the Midwest Registrars Committee (MCC) addressing the challenges of planning and managing a traveling exhibit; and X/Y Axis: Capturing and Keeping Young Adult Audiences, a workshop in collaboration with the Educators Committee (EdCom) to help educators develop programs for young adults.

AMM and EdCom Schedule Workshop for Museum Educators
AMM has scheduled a one-day workshop, Memory Loss, Creative Engagement, and Museum-Based Programming, for Friday, June 11 at the Art Institute of Chicago. This program will explore innovative approaches to engaging visitors with memory loss and their caregivers. This workshop, featuring presenters from the Alzheimer's Association, the Museum of Modern Art, and Wisconsin museums, will examine real-world applications for all types and sizes of museums. Fees for the workshop are $50 for AMM or EdCom members and $60 for non-members. The registration fee includes morning refreshments. The Art Institute will remain open Friday evening and will feature a special exhibition, Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913-1917; all workshop participants will be permitted to explore the Art Institute and the special exhibition at the conclusion of the workshop! For more information about the workshop, contact AMM Executive Director Brian Bray at 314-746-4557 or bbray@midwestmuseums.org. Click here for a tentative workshop agenda or for a registration form.
