JOB TITLE: Sales Manager

SALARY: $4,223.00 monthly minimum
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,088 annual hours) position.
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to lead the design, implementation, and advancement of the MNHS Press sales program.

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Lead sales strategies and activities for all MNHS Press titles; 2) Place and
track sales orders for direct-fulfillment purchases; 3) Oversee title metadata and title information
databases; 4) Analyze and forecast sales; 5) Oversee exhibits at trade shows and conferences; 6) Serve
as the primary contact for distribution vendors; and 7) Assist with inventory management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
● Three years sales or retail experience.
● Experience with audience identification, pricing, sales forecasting, and sales analysis.
● Knowledge of current publishing industry practices and trends.
● Demonstrated ability to plan programs, set and meet deadlines, and work within a budget.
● Demonstrated ability to communicate orally, including sales presentations, and in writing, including printed pieces and online content.
● Facility with social media.
● Facility with data and databases.
● Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
● Interest and/or experience in book publishing.
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
● Demonstrated ability to think imaginatively and problem solve.
● Demonstrated positive customer service skills.
● Demonstrated ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritize and adapt to changing priorities.
● Demonstrated ability to work independently and take individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment.
● Strong detail orientation with the ability to synthesize and organize complex information and  maintain/upgrade systems and processes.
● Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
● Ability and willingness to travel.
● Valid driver’s license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Knowledge of current publishing industry practices and trends.
● Experience with business-to-business and direct-to-consumer book and ebook sales.
● Experience selling to national retail accounts.
● Knowledge of selling scholarly and general interest publications of regional and national scope.
● Working knowledge of Access or Filemaker or similar databases.
● Copywriting experience.
● Experience with personnel management, including experience providing work direction to volunteers and interns.
● Access to a car for sales calls and exhibit set-up.
