SALARY: $6,599.00 monthly minimum, commensurate with experience
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,088 annual hours) position.
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program and a
retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to administer, direct, and coordinate the Exhibits program at the
Minnesota Historical Society according to the MNHS strategic plan. Responsibilities include developing
and implementing an intellectual framework for exhibit development in line with institutional content
priorities, leading the use of emerging technologies for storytelling in exhibitions, and managing the
production of exhibitions throughout the MNHS network.

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide the vision and leadership for exhibition programs and initiatives
throughout the MNHS network; 2) Oversee the development and implementation of exhibition programs
and services across the Minnesota Historical Society network; 3) Provide management oversight to the
department leadership team and staff; and 4) Represent MNHS as a member of professional
organizations and as a spokesperson, and contribute to the advancement of the fields of exhibition and
public history.

● Bachelor’s degree.
● Eight years experience in exhibit and production design or equivalent.
● Six years experience in progressively responsible management positions in museums/cultural
organizations, including experience in overseeing human and financial resources.
● Leadership experience, knowledge and ability in the emerging technologies shaping the fields of
historic sites, exhibits, historic preservation, and historic interpretation and/or storytelling.
● Well developed interpersonal, communication and managerial skills necessary to administer a
high quality program, develop budgets, and coordinate program needs in a large historic sites
and museums structure.
● Ability to work together with a broad range of constituencies including visitors, schools, donors,
trustees, researchers, historic site and museum professionals, state and local government
officials, and the general public.
● Thorough knowledge of and the ability to manage the process of long- and short-range program
and financial planning.
● Experience in managing large, multiple, complex projects through periods of growth, reduction,
and change.
● Demonstrated highly successful project management skills, including overseeing contract/vendor
relationships on small and large-scale projects.
● Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both
verbally and in writing.
● Strong computer skills including intermediate or higher skill with Microsoft Office, and with all
aspects of GOOGLE suite.
● Strong organization and documentation skills.
● Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
● Demonstrated ability to think imaginatively and problem solve.
● Demonstrated positive customer service skills.
● Demonstrated ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritize
and adapt to changing priorities.
● Demonstrated ability to work independently and take individual initiative while also being able to
collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment.
● Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; up to 75 pounds partner lift.
● Valid driver’s license.
● Willingness to travel out- and in-state.

● Experience with development work, fundraising, and writing grants.
● Ability to manage change to produce positive outcomes that are aligned with organizational
mission and resources.
● Broad knowledge of United States and Minnesota history.
● Experience with public program implementation.
● Understanding on how to determine the needs of underserved communities.
● Experience serving as an organization’s spokesperson.
● Experience working in a non-profit environment.
● Familiarity with MUNIS.
