SALARY: $16.64 hourly minimum
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 1,560 annual hours) position.
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in the State Employee Group Insurance Program and a
retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time
accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to share the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe culture, traditions, and
stories by engaging, educating, and entertaining visitors to the museum at an advanced and specialized
level of delivery.

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Assist daily program operations by providing lead work direction to site
guides and coordinating guest services; 2) Assist in the daily operations and administrative duties; 3)
Deliver programs, tours, and assist in the creation of programs; 4) Participate in site leadership duties
under the direction of the Site Manager or Program Supervisor; and 5) Mentor staff, interns, and
volunteers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Knowledge of American Indian history and culture, specifically the history and culture of the Ojibwe in Minnesota.
● Experience as a teacher, guide, or group leader.
● Mastery of a skilled craft and the ability to clearly explain it to the public.
● Strong verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
● Ability to speak in public, effectively communicating ideas and information, and adjusting your
presentation based on the audience or learning objectives.
● Proven customer service skills in working with a diverse public, including but not limited to:
children, teachers, senior citizens, people with disabilities, persons of different ethnic or cultural
background, people of color, and professionals.
● Ability to listen to audience members and be responsive to inquiries and comments.
● Demonstrated ability to mentor, train, motivate, and provide work direction.
● Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
● Ability to conduct research.
● Ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate programs.
● Basic accounting and math skills.
● Demonstrated ability to use or willingness to learn ticketing and cash register software.
● Ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
● Ability to multitask in a dynamic and demanding environment.
● Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for off-site program presentation.
● Ability to work 5-days per week and including some weekends from April through October.
● Must be willing to work rotating schedules or varying hours (25 – 40 per week) year around.
● Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments.
● Ability to lift up to 30 pounds; 50 pounds with a buddy lift.
● Ability to walk up to 5 miles a day.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Knowledge of Minnesota History.
● Knowledge of museum education and interpretive methods.
● Knowledge of museum education or teaching practices.
● Working knowledge of pertinent site related skills, operation and materials.
● Knowledge and ability to work with historic collections and materials.
● Demonstrated skills in storytelling and teaching.
● Experience using Tessitura software.
● Strong sales techniques.
● Strong computer skills.
● Mastery of a wide variety of interpretive techniques.
