Midway Village is Rockford Illinois’ history museum

Midway Village Museum is seeking a creative, dynamic person to develop historical educational programs with and for a wide variety of community partners and audiences.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·       Manage an extensive calendar of special events for the general public, working to introduce new events while keeping existing events fresh. Events include WWII and Prohibition reenactments, Sock Monkey Madness festival, and Halloween events as well as lectures, family days and workshops.

·       Work to develop partnerships with diverse stakeholders in the community, encouraging engagement with the museum.

·       Work with other members of the Education Department to ensure events are true to the Museum’s mission of educating visitors about Rockford history.

·       Work closely with the Director of Marketing to promote and evaluate events and grow attendance, the Director of Development to recruit event sponsors, and with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure events have the necessary volunteer staffing.

·       Oversee event-specific staff and volunteers in the execution of the event.

·       Develop and manage budgets for each event or partnership

·       Negotiate contracts and partnerships with performers, re-enactors and vendors

Bachelor’s degree required. A knowledge and passion for history desired. A background in history, recreation, event planning or museums preferred. Must have strong interpersonal skills, be a creative problem solver and self-motivated.  This is a full-time position with health insurance and benefits. Weekend and evening work will be required but will be offset by compensatory time.

Salary range $39,000-$42,000.
